 Chitrakoot, also referred to as "the hills of many wonders" is located in Satna district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This land unfolds major portion of Ramayana as Lord Rama spent 11 long years of exile. Also, this place witnessed the test by fire of Sita’s and the teachings of endless patience by fire. Goswami Tulsidas, the creator of the epic "Shri Ramcharitmanas”, spent many years in this place. This wonderful place is indeed the gift of nature and gods. Chitrakoot is the name given to the area of Khovi, Kamta, Karvi and Sitapur and is not a specific town or village. During Amavasya the place is visited by lots of people. Deepawali, Makar Sankrati, Sharad-Poornima and Ramanavami are some special occasions of Chitrakoot.
Chitrakoot is a place of cultural, religious, archaeological and historical importance and is known for large number of temples. Places of interest of Chitrakoot include Ramghat, Bharat Milap temple, Janaki Kund, Kamadgiri, Sati Anusuya ashrama, Gupt-Godavari, Hanuman Dhara, Sphatic Shila and Bharat Koop.
Chitrakoot is easily accessible from other major places. The nearest airport is in Khajuraho, 185 kilometers from the place. Karvi is the nearest railhead which is 8 kilometers away. Also the place is well connected to Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Allahabad, Agra, Banda and Satna by the buses.
