Tirupati
Tirupati is located at the foot hills of Tirumala. It is a temple town in Chittoor District in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Tirupati is popularly recognized as the richest temple in this part and is visited by millions of devotees throughout the year from all over the world. Tirumala is the abode of one of the Avatars of Lord Vishnu, the Lord Venkateshwara, located at Seshachala hills, popularly known as “Yaedu Kondalu”. The temple of Lord Venkateshwara is among the most visited temple in the world and was made by Telugu Kings to popularize the Telugu culture.
Until recently, Tirupati was not officially recognized by the Andhra Pradesh state government. The city is a municipal corporation and not a municipality with effect from March 2, 2007. Among the three major universities in Andhra Pradesh, Sri Venkateswara University is in Tirupati. Tirupati owes its existence to the holy temple located on the Tirumala Hills. Some of the temples in Tirupati and Tirumala include Alamelu, also known as Thiruchanoor, Padmavati Temple, Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple, Kapila Theertham (dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati), ISKCON Lord Krishna Temple, Hanuman Temple at Tirumala (Hanuman’s mother Anjana did penance here) and a lot more.
